51CrV4/DIN 1.8159 steel Manufacturer and Exporter, supplied with round, square, flat, block, and shaft etc.
51CrV4 /DIN 1.8159 is a Medium carbon alloy spring steel as per European Standard EN10083.It has good mechanical properties and process properties with high hardenability. In addition, the addition of vanadium element refines the grains, reduces the overheating sensitivity, improves the strength and toughness.
51CrV4 steel has high fatigue strength and high yield ratio. When the operating temperature is 300℃, its elasticity can still be maintained. The cutting performance is still good, but the plasticity is low during cold deformation, and the weldability is poor.

WHAT IS SPRING STEEL?
Spring Steel refers to special special steel for manufacturing various springs and other elastic components. The main requirement of spring steel is to have good elasticity, and the elasticity of steel depends on its ability to elastically deform, that is, within a specified range, the ability to elastically deform can make it bear a certain load. When the load is removed, the material permanent deformation will not occur.
The spring mainly plays the role of support, shock absorption, buffering, measurement, control and storage, output capacity, etc. It mainly bears shock, vibration or long-term alternating stress, and the service environment is the atmosphere, water and other media.
Basic Performance Requirements
- High Elastic Limit,Yield Strength,Yield Ratio
- High Fatigue Strength
- Sufficient Toughness & Certain Plasticity
- Good Surface Quality
Process Performance Requirements
- Good Formability & Hardenability
- Low Overheating Sensitivity
- Low Surface Decarburization Tendency
Spring Steel Main Classification
- Carbon Spring Steel
Carbon spring steel has the advantages of low cost, convenient source of raw materials and wide range of uses. The disadvantage is that the hardenability and yield strength are low.If the carbon content is increased, although the strength and elastic limit can be increased, it will reduce the impact toughness and plasticity, especially the low temperature toughness.
The carbon content of carbon spring steel is generally 0.62%~0.90%, and the common spring steel grades are as below:
USA: AISI 1065, AISI 1070, AISI 1086
Japan:SUP 2, SUP 3
Germany: CK67, CK85
- Alloy Spring Steel
Alloy spring steel is based on carbon steel, appropriately adding one or several alloying elements to improve the mechanical properties, hardenability and other properties of steel to meet the performance required for manufacturing various springs
The basic series of alloy spring steel are as follows:
Silicon manganese spring steel
Typical Grades:AISI 9255,AISI 9260,SUP 6,SUP 7,54SiCr6,60SiCr7
Chrome manganese spring Steel
Typical Grades:AISI 5155,AISI 5160,SUP 9,55Cr3
Chrome vanadium spring steel
Typical Grades: AISI 6150,SUP 10,51CrV4
