Normalizing 1045 steel can be used as a final heat treatment, but it is only suitable for light/medium load parts with low performance requirements.
If higher strength, toughness, or wear resistance is required, normalizing is insufficient, and quenching and tempering or subsequent surface strengthening must be used.
